iWork ’09 and iWork ’08: File compatibility

You can open and save iWork ’08 documents with iWork ’09, but you cannot open iWork ’09 documents with iWork ’08. Windows users has been dealing with this type of misfortune since Office 2007 was released, with no backwards compatibility to Office 2003. When you open and save an iWork ’08 document, you have a variety of options. You can save your iWork ’09 document as an iWork ’08 or Microsoft Office document by clicking “Save As…” and selecting “Save copy as.”

In Numbers ’09 you have the option to save your document as an Excel Document, or iWork ’08/’09 format.

In Pages ’09 you can do the same by saving your document as a Word document or iWork ’08/’09 format. 

These tips might help, But you still cannot open an iWork ’09 document with iWork ’08. If you attempt to open an iWork ’09 document with iWork ’08 you will receive the following message: 

iWork ’09 documents [via Apple]
